Bull ring (Birmingham) Developer: The Birmingham Alliance

This sophisticated Birmingham-based project involved hundreds of kilometres of cabling, 30 points of presence for consumer interaction, a terminal in each retail unit, an IP telephony with advanced unified messaging, an access system, CCTV, a loyalty-card system and information terminals. It has become the largest WiFi hotspot in Europe.

The Bull Ring achieved a number of UK firsts, including:

• The first Landlord owned GSM/3G multi operator active mobile infrastructure.
• The first retail centre to offer a range of added value ASP and telecoms applications to tenants.
• Integrated Footfall counting available to each retail tenant as well as main entrances and anchor tenants.

The Bull Ring has won many awards over the past few years and is still considered as one of the most complete and sophisticated implementations of the Intelligent Building Concept.
